Trip to the Powdrells

Comments Off

After several previous attempts being cancelled due to weather finally a fantastic blue sky day with a fresh southerly being the only minor hitch greeted us as we assembled at the club. We had a good turn out of over 10 planes including the Harvard and Tigermoth. The planes all set off mid morning for the powdrells and an awesome day was had by all including a BBQ, some tennis, and we were also treated to an aerobatic display by Nick Rowe in the Rv. Thanks to John, Jenny, Richard ,and Rose for a very fun day we appreciate the effort put in to host us , this day was an example of how much fun recreational flying can be and shows we need more days like this in our calendar.

2010 Air Safari comes to TAC

viw1

After a shortened Day 3 due to closing in weather, 65 aircraft and 163 crew descended upon TAC for the night. After securing the planes the bar was opened and the pilots and crew settled in for the night. A great presentation from John Martin capped off the evening and next day after a hot breakfast laid on by the club they were all away on route to Taupo. Awesome to see the yellow leader jerseys being worn by our own team of Dave and Daniel Campbell and Shane Anderson, an outstanding job for Day 2!

SAA WEEKEND 5/6/7 FEB 2010

We just hosted the annual Sport Aviation Associations meeting during Waitangi weekend. This is held every two years at Tauranga with Ashburton hosting them on the alternate year. The club was extremely busy cooking breakfast from Friday through to Sunday mornings, hosting a Kiwi Spit Roast Wings Award Dinner on the Friday night and a BBQ for 200 people for the Gala Dinner and prizegiving on the Saturday night.

The SAA had their AGM on Saturday and two fly-aways – one to Matamata on Friday which was a plane ‘efficiency race’ and on Saturday 32 planes went to Galatea to participate in the SAA competitions and visit the local Beer can museum. Several members from out of town set up camp on the airfield. Most members agreed that it was an excellent weekend. Fantastic weather throughout meant a large attendance, with an especially large crowd attending the airshow which the SAA has always hosted during their weekend in Tauranga
